When Steve Molitor hit the canvas last Friday night, the sizable fan contingent of Panamanian Celestino Caballero were not the only ones cheering because Molitor had relinquished his IBF title.
Back in Molitor’s hometown of Sarnia, few have forgotten that he is the brother of convicted murderer Jeremy Molitor. And according to both the Toronto Sun and the Sarnia Observer, many in Sarnia were hoping he would lose.

This is what Sarnia mayor Mike Bradley had to say:
“This town,” Bradley is quoted as saying, “has had a history of really being supportive of sporting figures, individually, and as teams, but there really hasn’t been that connection with Steve.”
Bradley went on to tell the reporter he admired what Molitor had accomplished and has no ill will toward him. But, he continued, “Personally, there’s a bit of a discomfort factor every time I read about Steve, when he talks about his bond with Jeremy. I realize they’re blood brothers and all that, but …”
Bradley added, “I do really wish the Molitor family would acknowledge in some way the issue of violence against women. That would be a start.”
